The Lying In Charity

Provides grants to residents of Colchester Borough who are six or more months pregnant or have a baby/babies up to six months of age. Financial restrictions apply. Grants are given by trustees for equipment to benefit baby or mother or to provide a service or facility to improve health of baby or mother. The charity was established in 1796. 

The charity is run by Trustees which include Council officers and representitives from local agencies who work with expectant and new mums. You need to be a resident of Colchester Borough and be 26 weeks pregnant or have a bay up to six months old. Be recieving welfare benefits or be on a low wage simelar to these rates. Not have savings in excess of £500. Not have any other mwans of getting these goods (including an Essential Living Fund Grant). Have support from a health visitor, midwife, doctor, other simelar person or local agency. 

The Trustees will consider ordering essential items for baby to the value of up to £250. In some cases you may only get part of what you asked for. The Trustees meet up to four times a year.
